CREATING THE YEAR-ROUND GARDEN
A workshop for green thumbs and greenhorns
AT THE MERCY CENTRE
IN ST. JOHN'S IN LATE APRIL, 2026
This full-day workshop will help you create a year-round garden so you can raise and harvest food all year long, by combining raised beds with protective structures like cloches, cold frames, tunnels, row covers and greenhouses, and by carefully selecting the varieties you plant.
By selecting seeds adapted to our climate, starting different crops in succession, building rich organic soil and protecting your plants,
you can harvest food all through the year, even in the middle of winter.
Garden educator and author Dan Rubin of Perfectly Perennial Herbs and Seeds will demonstrate raised bed construction and show you steps to create your own four-season garden.
Learn about plant selection, seed starting, soil enrichment, intensive planting and how to build protective structures to extend your growing season.
Each session includes a slide show, seed starting, raised bed construction
and printed handout, plus a home cooked lunch.
Seeds and soil for seed starting are included in the $169 workshop fee.
Tentative workshop dates: Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19.
